It was the final game of the season in the highly competitive New Newark Youth League Division 1 for Bingham Under 11 Reds. The Marauding Reds faced 2nd placed Collingham Cavaliers at Station Road, Collingham. Bingham sat joint 4th with Newark Town and Collingham knowing that only victory would secure the runners up spot. Bingham without the talented Declan O’Hare and Charlie Jemson secured the vital points in an epic encounter and held on to a fine 1-0 victory against talented footballing opposition. On a warm, sunny May morning Bingham started the brighter of the two sides and Danny Bradshaw was unfortunate to see two efforts squeeze inches wide of the post. Collingham played with style and flair and worked the ball out well from the back-this meant that Bingham had to defend from the front and reduce the space for the home side to play within. Luca Hardy rotated well with Danny on a 5 minute basis to allow them to constantly pressure the Collingham defence. They were rewarded for their efforts when a well rehearsed corner routine saw Corey Simpson’s flighted cross met at the far post by Luca. 1-0 the crowd went wild and the Collingham players were ready to fight back. Collingham changed their game plan slightly and were forced to loft high flighted balls into the box but found them easily plucked out of the air by ‘keeper Joe Heyes whose expert handling belied his early years. At the back Ryan Bartello was carrying a heavily bandaged wrist after an earlier accident but showed no signs of distress as he gave a brave and commanding performance as sweeper. After the match Ryan was taken to the QMC where it was discovered he had a broken wrist. Bingham had done their homework and Corey Simpson, Ethan Nichol and Jack Hedgley played man to man marking roles to prevent any Collingham creativity from their skilful forward triangle. Bingham’s talisman Toby Stevenson ran, hustled and headed and although Collingham switched skipper James Holland to centre midfield he just couldn’t get past the “Tenacious Trio” of Toby, Jack and Corey.  The action and pace was so frenetic that the referee called for an additional drinks break so that the players from both teams could gather their breath in the blazing sunshine. When they did break through the Bingham defence they found Joe Heyes in magnificent form when he made 3 outstanding saves including a close range double save from Charlie Warrington when he looked certain to score. Danny Bradshaw and Luca Hardy continued to run themselves ragged up front and blocked a large part of Collingham’s build up play. Corey, Luca and Toby both had long range efforts easily saved and Ryan and Ethan continued to anticipate and read any of the home sides counter attacks. It was impossible however, to single out any one individual for extra praise. On the day Collingham played better football but Bingham deserved their victory. Bingham had the bigger hearts and their effort, application, determination and bravery made the Bingham parents and coaches so very, very proud.

Bingham Town YFC under 16s had an excellent game battling hard against top of the league Bulwell Rangers FC. Bulwell Rangers scored their only goal of the game when they were quicker to respond to the rebound from the penalty initially saved by Tim Hatton. Bingham Town replied shortly after when Connor McIlveen's strike struck the back of the net.  This was swiftly followed by Bingham’s second goal when Chris Bowles free kick deflected off the wall. Fin Whittington chased Connor’s cross in to take Bingham’s third. Chris Bowles scored the only goal of the second half turning and striking the ball for the final goal of the game. An excellent display of football from Bingham Town YFC – Man of the Match – The Team. Final score 4-1 to Bingham.

The Under 15s Red, Jamie Duncan scored two goals for the Reds after travelling away to Gedling Southbank Red, giving Bingham a 2-1 victory.
